THE ORIGINS

How did this unusual literary organisation come into existence?

Every archive has a beginning.

Every reader a story.

Before there were Prompt Archives, Side Quest Vaults or a rather overqualified corvid assistant, there was simply a reader who believed books deserved to be remembered.

That belief grew into Authologie: a place where stories are treasured, reading journeys are celebrated and every reader can feel they belong, regardless of format, pace or circumstance.

The story of Authologie didn't begin with journals, prompts or even The Organisation. Like any good origin story, it unfolded chapter by chapter.

This is ours.

Chapter One: The Bookshelf

Long before Authologie became a reading challenge, it began with a bookshelf.

Books were never just something to read. They were places to escape to, worlds to disappear into and companions that could be revisited whenever life called for a little more imagination. There was almost always a book in hand, another waiting on the bedside table and countless more filling bookshelves that somehow never felt quite full enough.

Those shelves became much more than somewhere to store books. They were a living record of adventures, discoveries and memories. Rearranging them became a hobby in itself. Authors would be alphabetised, genres grouped together, colours aligned, then everything would be reorganised all over again as another idea presented itself. There was always one more way to make the collection feel just a little more complete.

Looking back, it wasn't really about organisation at all.

It was about preserving the stories that had become part of life. Each book represented a journey, a favourite character, a particular season, a moment in time or a version of the person reading it. Simply seeing those books together brought back memories that might otherwise have faded.

Without realising it, the first Authologie archive had already begun.
