HOW DOES THE CHALLENGE WORK?

What is a prompt challenge?
We have given you prompts to help guide your choices into the types of books to read in the challenge. Each of the prompts are designed to create an exciting reading challenge, planned by you, where you choose a book per prompt that you think you'll enjoy reading. The Year One prompts are on the scroll above!
52 Prompts and 'Year One'- does that mean it is a year long challenge?
We all read at different speeds and have lives to fit our challenge and reading into, this is your challenge, go at your speed. This is not a race to complete the challenge in a set time, nor is it over after 12 months if you haven't finished the prompts or side quests. Go at your own pace and enjoy exploring new books.
I'm unsure what some of the prompts mean, how do I know what they are asking for?
You can find a list of prompt explainers within the Prompt Library. This is a list of all the prompts and the explanations as to what they mean and how to 'hit' them. There is no 'wrong' interpretations of a prompt, they are there to inspire you — if you feel a book works well for a prompt, then it's a great choice. You can find The Prompt Library here:
I'm finding choosing a book for each prompt difficult, is there a place we can find book ideas for each prompt?
Yes! In The Prompt Library Annex we have a selection of books listed for each prompt. They're broadly a starting point for you if you're stuck. You can find The Prompt Library Annex here:
Don't forget, The Circle is also an excellent place to get book recommendations and ideas for each prompt too. There you can search the prompt hashtags, scroll through group posts or check out the photo albums as each prompt is given an album for members to use. Join The Circle here:
I have a great idea for a book which will match one of the prompts, can I share this to help others?
Absolutely! The whole aim of this challenge when initially developed was for it to provide a community of support for people who love reading and get excited about reading challenges and journalling their reads. The Circle is a great place to let people know about your recommendations, use the prompt hashtag when posting (for example, the first prompt's hashtag would be #promptasticimnotafraidofthedark and the others follow the same structure. You can find the full list in the prompt library) Each prompt also has it's own photo album in The Circle Facebook Group - feel free to add photos of the book cover and recommendations in the comments. If you'd like your book recommendation to appear on our website, please do send them to Prudence Drudge, Head Prompt Librarian using her button below. Please include the PROMPT, BOOK TITLE, AUTHOR AND GENRE in your message.
What are The Side Quests and how do I earn the badges?
All of the side quests are optional, they do not form part of the Promptastic Book Club Challenge, but they are an opportunity to broaden the experience. They can be found in The Side Quest Vault and each works towards a badge reward for your efforts. The more side quests you complete, the higher the reward! Both intrinsic and extrinsic! You will be asked at the end of your challenge to let us know the side quests you completed and each contributes points towards a title being given to you that acknowledges and recognises your contribution towards The Organisation. We have exciting things planned for our challengers who go that extra mile! The badges and other merchandise can be purchased in the organisation's Book Club Shop here:
How do I know what I'm required to do for each side quest?
Each side quest has a set of parameters to hit when choosing your challenge reads. Only one of the side quests requires extra reading, the others can be worked into the 52 prompts with careful planning. You can find the details for each side quest in the journal and in The Side Quest Vault here:
I'm stuck, is there anyone who can help?
Yes! Always! Get in touch with Seraphina who is The Keeper of the Circle. It is her role within The Organisation to guide and support all challenge recruits. She also created the journal and designed the challenge, so send her a message, she'll happily help!
