FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS...
What is the Promptastic Book Club Challenge?
The Promptastic Book Club Challenge is a flexible, creativity-led reading challenge built around 52 themed prompts. It’s designed to help you explore new genres, discover unexpected books and enjoy a more imaginative reading year. You can take part entirely at your own pace, in whatever way suits you.
How does the challenge work?
Choose one book for each of the 52 prompts. You can complete them in any order and at any speed. Many readers use the accompanying journal, but it’s optional.
Do I need to buy the journal to take part?
No. The journal is designed to enhance the experience, but participation is completely free and open to everyone.
Can I double up prompts with the same book?
No. Each of the main prompts is to be matched with one book. Each book can only be used for one prompt.
The side quests and the dodecagon theme are more flexible, so a single book can count for multiple side quests or you can read several books for one quest.
Do I have to read one book per week?
Not at all. You can read as slowly or as quickly as you like. The 'Year' begins when you're ready and completes when books for all 52 prompts have been read.
Can I join halfway through the year?
You’re welcome to start at any moment. There’s no timeline, no deadlines and no fixed beginning or end. People join throughout the year, and that freedom is part of the charm of a challenge that isn’t tied to a real-world calendar.
You simply begin in Year One and work your way through the challenge years in order. There are always new recruits and readers who are further along, and plenty yet to start as well. Everyone moves at their own pace. We all read together, share our discoveries and celebrate the journey.
Is there a community I can join?
Yes, absolutely! You can join the community on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, StoryGraph, Goodreads, our website, the Seraphina’s Notebook blog and through Authologie events.
Our most active space is our Facebook group, where you’re invited to share what you’re reading and celebrate your challenge milestones. We host giveaways, book chat, Sunday Shares and plenty more.
We refer to the community as 'The Circle', you may see it mentioned here and in our journals.
The community is welcoming, supportive and happily embraces readers of every genre and format.
Where can I find recommendations for each prompt?
Each prompt has a dedicated list of suggested reads, we have tried to offer books which are from a wide mix of genres, lengths and difficulty levels.
If you find yourself stuck and needing inspiration, lists of recommended books matched to the prompts are available in 'The Prompt Library Annex' and regularly updated with recommendations from 'The Circle'.
You can also use StoryGraph and Goodreads for book ideas for each prompt.
We love to have prompt match-up recommendations. Joining the community and suggesting them really helps future prompt challengers to get the most out of their challenge. Send recommendations to seraphina@authologie.com
Can audiobooks or e-books be used for the challenge?
Yes. All formats count: print, e-books, audiobooks, braile or text-to-voice.
Listening while a friend reads to you is also an excellent way to access books too!
We're fully inclusive and supportive of every members circumstances and needs while reading.
Many of our members have physical disabilities, learning difficulties or are neurodivergent, we have members who work long hours and those with busy family lifes, audio books and other accessible methods ensure many more people can access books regardless of circumstances, we don't want anyone to feel left out!
Are there side quests?
Yes. Alongside the 52 core prompts, the challenge includes additional themed side quests for readers who enjoy extra structure or surprises.
How do I share my progress?
Share on social media using the challenge hashtags, post within the community, or keep it private. You can participate as publicly or privately as you like.
What if I’m not sure a book fits a prompt?
If you’re uncertain, you can check the guidance notes beneath each prompt or ask in the community. The challenge is flexible, so interpretation is encouraged.
Do re-reads count?
Yes. Rereading is welcome and counts toward any prompt.
Do I have to complete all 52 prompts to take part?
No. Many readers complete some prompts, dip in and out, or use the challenge as inspiration rather than a strict checklist. Any level of participation is valid.
