In December, our Year One Dodecagon Quest encourages us to choose a book that celebrates family and traditions.
In The Sparking Hearth, settle into a book centred around family. Perhaps a story set during family gatherings or seasonal festivities, where love and warmth shine through and conquer all.
As you choose your read, you can match it to any of the Year One prompts you feel it works best with, and across any genre you choose. Romances, family sagas, and historical fiction may work particularly well, but we’re sure these themes can be discovered in many other genres too.
Book ideas for Year One's 'The Sparking Hearth' theme
Read a book where connection, tradition, and shared moments take centre stage. Below are some possibilities to inspire your search. If you discover a book that fits the theme, send it my way through the button below and we’ll gladly add it to the Circle’s growing collection of The Sparking Hearth favourites.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Little Women fits The Sparking Hearth perfectly, and it also aligns well with the Genre Genie side quest. It would also match Year One Prompt 24: Set in the 1800s beautifully.

How Do I Match Books to ‘The Sparking Hearth’ and the Year One Challenge Prompts?
The Dodecagon Quest goes hand in hand with the main prompt challenge. No additional reading is required. With a little planning, you can weave each month’s Quest theme into the books you’re already reading for your Year Group’s prompts and hit other side quests too.
The Year One prompts that could pair beautifully with December’s theme include:
Set in Scandinavia
A House on the Cover
All I Want for Christmas Is…
Sugar-Coated
Set During the 1800s
Make a Wish
Dress to Impress
Feels Like Home
Where in the World?
If you find a book that fits The Sparking Hearth, send it to me and I’ll add it to the Circle’s collection of Sparking Hearth recommendations.
Enjoy the warmth,
Seraphina
