THE SCORCHED PAGES: YEAR ONE DODECAGON QUEST - NOVEMBER'S THEME

NOVEMBER'S THEME

In November, our Year One Dodecagon Quest leads us into a world of books where tensions build and explode.

In The Scorched Pages, you are invited to read a tale that lights up like fireworks with sudden twists, revelations or confrontations.

The explosion might be emotional rather than literal: a truth that shatters the room, a relationship that combusts or a decision that sends shockwaves through every chapter that follows.

As you choose your read, you can match it to any of the Year One prompts you feel it would work best with and across any genre you choose: thrillers with detonating secrets, fantasy quests powered by rebellion, historical fiction where uprisings spark, sci-fi where systems malfunction spectacularly and perilously, contemporary novels where tempers flare or entire lives go up in metaphorical flame.

Book ideas for Year One's 'The Scorched Pages' theme

Your task? To select a book where something, whether it's mood, a truth, an action or consequence explodes. Below are some possibilities to inspire your search. If you discover a book that fits the theme, send it my way through the button below and we’ll gladly add it to the Circle’s growing collection of Scorched Pages favourites.

One August Night by Victoria Hislop

One August Night fits The Scorched Pages perfectly, and it also aligns well with the Global Guide side quest. I read this book for the Year One prompt, A Touch of the Green-Eyed Monster.

In this historical drama, Victoria Hislop returns to the story first told in The Island, as Spinalonga closes its leper colony for good. This moment of freedom and reunion is overshadowed by a terrible event that sends ripples through families across Crete.

As the sudden incident affects the characters’ lives, the emotional fallout, the secrets, guilt and fractured relationships are revealed.

The plot is explosive in terms of impact, consequence and emotional force, which makes it a perfect match for The Scorched Pages.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

Alongside fitting 'The Scorched Pages' beautifully, We Solve Murders also ties in neatly with the Genre Genie side quest as a crime novel. I read this book for the Year One prompt, 32: 'Silhouettes on the Cover', but it matches well with several of the Year One prompts, 4: 'Give me a Clue!' in particular, only beaten to my first choice for that prompt by Agatha Christie!

In this witty detective story, Richard Osman delivers a clever twist on the murder mystery.

The impact of each discovery makes it an ideal fit for The Scorched Pages.

How Do I Match Books to ‘The Scorched Pages’ and the Year One Challenge Prompts?

The Dodecagon Quest goes hand-in-hand with the main prompt challenge. No additional reading is required, with a bit of planning, you can weave each month’s Quest theme into the books you’re already reading for your Year Group’s prompts and hit the other side quests too!

The Year One prompts that could pair beautifully with November's, Year One theme include:

I’m Not Afraid of the Dark

A Heavy Read

Set During a Conflict

Give Me a Clue

Second Chances

A Touch of the Green-Eyed Monster Social Media Mayhem

A Debt to Repay

Rock, Paper, Scissors

A Red Flag

The Time is Ticking

A Family in Turmoil

Fierce Females

Smooth Criminal

If you find a book that fits The Scorched Pages, send it to me and I’ll add it to the Circle’s collection for others seeking a fiery November read.

Enjoy the fireworks!
